I just got a call from Sprint or something, the guy was obviously reading off a script so I just chucked my phone onto the sofa and let him continue talking to the sofa for about 15 minutes or so.

After I heard a distant “Sir are you there” I pretty much just gave him the “That’s nice” and hung up.

This morning I got a call from a payday loan place saying that I won free money. But I’ve never even gone to one and don’t plan to.

I work in a call centre (Tech Support yo!).
The funny part is that unless you’re smart, the telemarketer will just call you back. We always get the last laugh. If you want them gone, just say “put me on your Do Not Call List” then hang up. Waaaaay too many people think that just hanging up right after picking up will stop the calls.

To be honest, I’ve noticed no difference in how people treat us vs. an outsourced call centre. When people don’t get what they want, they go wild. :(

I’d say the conditions and management in foreign call centers more than anything. People do get quite pissy though.

Oooh yeah, we have significantly better working conditions. :) Also, I wonder how long call centres will last in the US? The Gov’t has finally started to crack down on telemarketing and the laws are always changing.
